How Does an Egg Tray Production Machine Work?
Step 1 – Pulping
Waste paper and water (1:10) are mixed in a pulper to create fiber pulp. Additives are added, then water is adjusted to a consistency of 3-5%.
Step 2 – Forming
A vacuum pump pulls pulp onto a forming mold. Water drains through a screen, leaving a wet tray shape.
Step 3 – Transferring
Compressed air blows the wet tray from the forming mold onto a transfer mold, then another air blast pushes it onto a conveyor or drying rack.
Step 4 – Drying & Stacking
Trays dry at 180-220°C for 15-20 minutes. An automatic stacker counts and stacks them for packing.
Key Technical Features of an Egg Carton Machine
- Uses waste paper as raw material: It turns old newspapers, cardboard boxes, and office paper into profit with low material cost. This includes common waste that would otherwise go to a landfill.
- Biodegradable and eco-friendly: Paper pulp trays break down naturally in soil, creating no plastic pollution. They fully decompose within weeks, leaving no toxic residue.
- Low labor cost per tray: One machine with just four workers produces 3,500 trays per hour, or about 875 trays per worker per hour. That means lower operating costs and higher output per shift.
- Simple operation: Workers learn the pulping and forming cycle in one day, and the machine runs automatically after startup. No technical background is required, and one person can monitor multiple units.
- Multiple drying options: Choose from cost-free sun-drying, high-output brick-tunnel drying, or space-saving metal multi-layer drying. Each option fits different climates, space availability, and production volumes.
- One machine, multiple products: By changing the mold, the same unit makes fruit trays, cup carriers, bottle trays, and industrial packaging. This allows you to diversify into new markets without extra capital investment.

Case Study: YG Egg Tray Manufacturing Machine in the Philippines

Client Background:
A medium-sized egg production company in Luzon, Philippines, runs a farm with roughly 500,000 laying hens and produces about 460,000 eggs daily. The company supplies fresh eggs to supermarkets and food exporters in Metro Manila. Before working with YG Machinery, they relied entirely on imported foam trays from Vietnam and China.
Core Pain Points:
- Imported foam trays were expensive, making monthly packaging costs a significant burden.
- Long sea freight lead times and frequent typhoons caused recurring tray shortages, forcing bulk shipping and noticeably higher breakage rates.
- Local environmental regulations began discouraging foam plastics; the company needed a biodegradable solution to maintain export certifications.
Solution:
YG Machinery supplied a fully automatic egg crate making machine (model YG-4×8) with a capacity of approximately 4,500 pieces per hour, plus a multi-layer metal drying line. The machine uses waste paper (old newspapers, cartons) as raw material, reducing material cost to just a few cents per tray. Total power is 130 kW with electricity consumption around 90 kW/h, and only 4-6 workers are needed to operate it. A free standard mold (30-egg tray) was included, and YG’s engineer provided on-site installation and one-day training. The drying system works reliably in the humid Philippine climate, eliminating dependence on sunny weather.
Application Results:
- Tray cost became much more economical compared to previously imported foam trays, resulting in significant savings.
- The farm no longer faces tray shortages or shipping delays, and egg breakage rates returned to normal levels.
- The equipment investment was recovered in less than three months, and the farm gained a green packaging certification.
Customer Testimonials:
“The YG egg tray machine completely changed our packaging cost structure. We no longer worry about foam tray shortages or plastic bans. It’s a reliable solution for any mid‑size to large egg farm in Southeast Asia.” — Manager, Luzon Egg Company.
