An industrial tire shredder turns scrap tires into rubber chips or granules for recycling. It uses two counter-rotating shafts with heavy cutters to tear tires apart. The machine runs at low speed but high torque, so it handles steel-belted tires without jamming. These shredders are commonly used by tire recyclers, rubber powder plants, and waste management companies. They reduce landfill waste, recover steel wire, and produce clean rubber for further processing. How a Rubber Shredder Operates?

The working principle of an industrial tire shredder is not complicated. The dual shafts each carry heavy cutters, rotating in opposite directions to bite and shear the material. When tires enter the shredding chamber, the rotating cutter discs pull and cut them until the pieces are smaller than the screen mesh holes. The machine runs at low speed, only dozens of revolutions per minute, but with extremely high torque. This prevents jamming. Even if steel wire or metal objects get inside, the PLC system automatically reverses, clears the jam, and resumes operation. The whole machine requires little manual intervention and is suitable for continuous work.
Key Advantages of a Rubber Shredding Machine

1. Uses whole tires directly
Most models accept whole tires with no pre-cutting or debeading. Feed car tires, truck tires, or even small OTR tires as they are. This eliminates extra equipment and labor costs. The dual shaft design pulls each tire in automatically, so you don’t have to push or position them manually.
2.Low energy per ton
The machine runs at low speed, typically 30 to 60 rpm, which consumes less electricity than high-speed granulators. For the same output, it uses about 30 percent less power. Over a full year of operation, that reduction can save thousands of dollars on your electric bill.
3. Produces clean rubber chips
Steel wires separate naturally during shredding. Add a magnetic conveyor right after the shredder, and it removes 99 percent of the steel in one pass. The rubber chips come out clean enough to sell directly or feed into a granulator. Clean chips also get a better market price.
4. Simple operation
One worker can learn to run the machine after just one day of training. The PLC controls everything from startup to auto reverse. Just press start, feed tires, and let the system handle jams automatically. No need to hire a specialist or keep extra staff on shift.
5. Long blade life
SKD 11 blades are tough and wear-resistant. They can shred 2000 to 3000 tons of car tires before needing rotation or replacement. Keep one spare set on hand, and you can swap them in about two hours. That means months of production with very little downtime.
6. Multiple output sizes
Swap the screen mesh to change your output size in under 30 minutes. Use 40mm holes for rubber mulch sold to playgrounds. Use 60mm holes for landfill cover material. Use 80mm holes for tire-derived fuel. One machine gives you three different products and three revenue streams.
Main Applications for an Industrial Tire Shredder

- Tire recycling plants: The most common application. Whole tires become rubber chips. The chips go to granulators or cracker mills for rubber powder. Steel wires are sold to steel mills.
- Tire-derived fuel production: Power plants and cement kilns burn tire chips as fuel. The calorific value of rubber is higher than that of coal. The machine produces 50mm to 80mm chips ideal for TDF.
- Rubber mulch manufacturing: Playgrounds and landscaping need colored rubber mulch. The shredder produces 20mm to 40mm chips. Then, a granulator and coating line make the final product.
- Steel wire recovery: Scrap tires contain 10 to 15 percent steel wire by weight. The tire recycling shredder releases the wire from the rubber. A magnetic separator pulls the wire out. Clean wire sells for good prices.
- Civil engineering projects: Shredded tires are lightweight and drain well. They are used as backfill for retaining walls, road embankments, and landfill drainage layers. The machine provides consistently sized chips for these projects.
